Chris Kellett seeks Republican endorsement in District 10A.
Chris Kellett, longtime Brainerd resident and business owner, describes herself as a concerned citizen answering a call to listen to and serve the people of Minnesota’s House District 10A. Kellett, who has also been active in numerous volunteer capacities, pledges to focus on jobs, education, seniors and fiscal responsibility.
Kellett’s grandfather, Fred, retired in the 1970’s as the most winning coach in Brainerd history taking the Brainerd High School basketball team to their only state championship in 1954. “He taught me about integrity, determination and fairness. I believe the people of Crow Wing County need to work together as a team to the benefit of our children, seniors and other citizens.”
Kellett believes her leadership skills and experience will be invaluable to stimulating job growth and economic development in the Brainerd Lakes Area. “Currently, we are ranked among the highest in the state for unemployment. It is time to help people get back to work. Giving tax incentives and reducing government red-tape for businesses not only helps create jobs but spurs economic development which will positively impact tourism in our area.”
“It has been heartbreaking to watch my friends and neighbors lose their quality jobs, businesses, homes and savings. Others are struggling to just get by. I am running for this office because I know I can be an active part of the solution.”
Kellett also believes we need to make it easier for seniors to stay in their homes as long as possible. Kellett would propose freezing their tax rates as long as they live in their homes. When the senior citizen moves out of their home, the property taxes would return to market value.
Kellett seeks to address what she calls a huge disparity between our area schools and Metro area schools when it comes to general education funding. For example, Minneapolis schools receive approximately $2,000 more per student than we do. Kellett adds, “I think this is unfair to our students.”
Kellett is the owner of Bridge-Light Marketing & Web Design in Brainerd. She consults with numerous small businesses doing so since she left her position as a Corporate Support Representative for Lakeland Public Television. In prior years, she worked as a counselor helping adults, teens, and veterans struggling with depression, PTSD, alcohol and other addictions.
Kellett recently served as President for the Rosenmeier Center for State and Local Government, and is a past President and Lt. Governor for the Kiwanis Club of Brainerd. Over the years she served as a Chamber Ambassador, Crossing Arts Alliance board member, Crisis Line Volunteer, and is a strong supporter of sportsmens’ and gun owners’ rights.
Kellett is a mother of three children who all graduated from Brainerd High School and has one granddaughter.
