Harry and Annie Kellett - McGoon

The Phone Call

She called with the bad news today
I wasn’t quite sure what to say
I tried to hear between her tears
About her husband, friend of many years

She recounted the events that had transpired
He had been feeling ill and very tired
They thought he would soon feel alright
But time passed and soon no appetite

She brought him in and heard the news
Her friend for life about to lose
She didn’t know how she could cope
I tried to offer words of hope

I spoke with him later on the phone
When he had some time alone
He told me he was very scared
I tried to let him know I cared

I pondered later what it’s all about
So hard to believe; so easy to doubt
Listening to songs from years gone by
Thinking of life; wondering why…

This gift of time so precious
Yet we have to let it go
And someday say goodbye
To this world and those we know

The only comfort to come from this
Is remembering smiles from those we miss
and hopes to one day reunite
In a better place of love and light.

Remembering Harry

Sometimes we don't realize just how much we will miss someone until they are gone. That has definitely been the case with my step-dad, Harry. He was so entertaining and off-the-wall at times but made us all laugh--a lot! He was full of life and brought life to our family. I think of him so often and tell stories about him on a regular basis. He was a Vietnam Veteran, a milk truck driver and a good man. I miss him so much. It was tough for all of us, but especially hard for my mother to lose him, they were best friends and laughed and laughed together. Harry passed away on April 30, 2009. But he will never be forgotten by those who knew him.
